30 protest proposed hike in Malacca licence fees
About 30 people gathered at the Malacca Historical City Council square in Malacca today to protest against the proposed increase in the business and advertisement licence fees tomorrow.
About 30 people gathered at the Malacca Historical City Council square in Malacca today to protest against the proposed increase in the business and advertisement licence fees tomorrow.
The gathering, which had representatives from opposition political parties such as PKR, PAS and DAP, began at about 10 am. Several children, believed to be those of some representatives, were also seen in the gathering.
It is learnt that the business and advertisement licence fees in the city council area would be increased by about 200 percent.
The participants of the gathering displayed posters bearing the words ‘Hentikan Kezaliman, Hentikan Kenaikkan Bayaran Lesen Perniagaan dan Iklan’ (Stop the Injustice, Stop the Increase in Business and Advertisement Licence Fees) and the logos of the three parties.
They also used loudhailers to express their dissatisfaction.
Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin of PKR, Bukit Baru assemblyperson Dr Md Khalid Kassim of PAS and Malacca DAP chairperson Goh Leong San were among those who attended the gathering.
Shamsul Iskandar handed over a protest memorandum to Mayor Zainal Abu before the gathering dispersed.
