PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat has warned that a bigger rally will be held if the government “remains stubborn” and is intolerant towards the people after the price hike rally last night, which concluded without any major unwanted incidents.

“The people’s presence is also a presence that the people will not keep quiet about the difficulties that they are facing,” Suhaizan said in a statement today.

“Yesterday’s rally was the starting point and if the government does not stop being stubborn and intolerant with the people, a much bigger rally will be mobilised,” he added.

He said that the presence of many youths during the rally is a sign that the people “value” the democratic spirit in the country.

He also questioned the allegations made by the authorities that the rally last night was meant to topple the government and that there were bomb threats during the rally.

“We are all asking where is the government that was toppled, which bomb had gone off, and where are the concerns expressed in over 1,300 police reports that were made against the rally organisers?” he asked.

He said that on the evidence of last night, it was “clear” that the allegations and concerns are merely the government’s “fear of its own shadow”.

“The threats that were hurled were not able to weaken the spirits of the people, in fact youths are increasingly spirited and brave to express themselves without paying heed to the risks involved,” he said.
