The Kelantan PAS government is prepared to review its ban on the Menora dance which has been declared illegal since 1990, if the dance does not have any traits deemed contrary to Islam.
Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said the PAS government has not prohibited cultural shows as long as they are not against Islam, as they can become a tourist attraction.
He said the government welcomes such cultural performance including wayang kulit (shadow play) as it brings good values and lesson to the people.
“However, if it is against Islam and contains belief that is not based on reality and against the religion, such performances should be stopped,” he said.
The Kelantan MB said he was prepared to review the ban since 1990.
Menora is a dance performed mostly in the northern states of peninsular Malaysia, and has Thai influence based on Buddhist tales.
