Non-governmental organisation Jingga 13 has lodged a police report against Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria urging that he be investigated under Section 503 and 505(C) of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and public mischief.

Its coordinator, Fariz Musa, lodged the report at the Dang Wangi police station.

“The Perak mufti should know that the assembly was to protest against Umno-BN over the rising cost of living that is faced by the people. Hence, what Harussani said is seditious, and allowing the use of violence on those who were present is improper.

Yesterday, Harussani branded the protesters as traitors and that their blood is permitted in Islam.

PAS vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also has reiterated urgings for Harussani to retract his fatwa that the blood of the New Year’s Eve protesters is permitted.

He described what the Perak mufti said as being dangerous to public security, and it is clearly against the definition of “bughah” in Islam.

“Such a wrong decree like this had resulted in thousands of demonstrators in Egypt being shot as it deviate from the bounds of religion.

“The term ‘bughah’ refers to armed rebellion by the people to topple an Islamic government which is governed with justice and within the realms of syariah law.”

 

Explaining further, the PAS vice-president said bughah falls within hudud.

He asked whether it is wrong for the people to protest over rising prices and cost of living, and objecting to corruption and abuse of power by politicians, for someone to come up with such a decree that the blood of such demonstrators is permitted.

Tuan Ibrahim said such a fatwa issued by the mufti must be based on proper information and observation to the case and cannot depend on what is reported in the mainstream media that is controlled by the government which deviate from the facts.

“Hence PAS demands that Harussani withdraw the statement to ensure those who do not know about Islam or religious extremists become influenced by this,” said the party vice-president.
