YOURSAY Najib is anything but a leader. If he was, he would have reined in the racists...'

Marina flays top leaders for silence over 'Allah' protest

Headhunter: Marina Mahathir, I respect you for your conviction and for standing up for the minority. You are an exemplary Muslim who is very much respected by non‑Muslims. I only wish our so‑called leaders have shown such leadership.

But as we all know, leadership by good example is totally absent from a hopeless and weak leadership in the country at the moment. We have a PM who goes into perpetual hibernation and only wakes up once in a while to deliver beautiful speeches that never translate into action.

Domcr2001: Marina, I really wish there are more people like you in Malaysia. When there is injustice, you dare to voice your opinion . Many people just keep quiet for whatever selfish reasons.

Mohican: Marina, we salute you and hold you in high esteem for defending the Klang Catholic church this morning. You are the modern day Joan of Arc. Bushels of thanks, Marina, a true Muslim worthy to be followed and a true follower of the great Prophet Mohammad who will see her actions from heaven and smile approvingly.

Metallic: Time and time again, it proves the so-called leader is miserably unfit to hold the post, whoever he is. And he seems to be proud to be on posters just before the election, as someone whom everybody loves .

Tan Kim Keong: The crux of the matter is that Najib is anything but a leader. If he was, he would have reined in racists and bigots from members of his party particularly his deputy. So Najib is just another demagogue. This is the saddest part of this beautiful country for now.

Argonist As I said Malaysia does not have a prime minister. It is now run by any NGO that serves the politics of extremism and the rule of despots.

Najebon: Thanks Marina. Moderate Muslims must speak up. Those radical Muslims are bullies. They bully the minority. Those radicals give a bad impression of Islam among the non-Muslims world over.

Oh Ya?: She should resign from the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC). Najib is just pulling wool over our eyes with that initiative. He promised no price increases before GE13, and now? He and the Christian community agreed on a 10-point compromise before GE13, and now?

He signed a deal with a faction of Hindraf, and now? His meeting with Dong Zong before GE13 was the first and the last. Bet with you the Sabah RCI and the NUCC are just flake.

Anonymous #62211637: A leader commands respect and does not do it by providing populist rhetoric to keep his support up. Even if there was only one non-Muslim in the country, that person's rights has to be protected by the PM and the constitution guarantees it.

Vijay47: Marina, while you rightly feel disappointment with government leaders who are keeping their elegant see‑nothing silence, we Christians are disgusted with the Christian members of the cabinet and the government.

Not a single one of them had the strength of faith to stand up and tell Najib and Umno that enough was enough. None of them had the dignity to leave this pack of rabid mongrels. Instead they would make some pathetic explanation of "working behind the scene". Yeah, while Rome burns.

R1: Well, the Christian leaders in government are mostly paper politicians, they talk only in paper and do nothing.

Straight‑Talk: What happened to Idris Jala, a minister who is a Christian in Najib's cabinet? Why is there no comment from him? Scared of losing his job, is it?

Tiredofsuchnonsense: Only true Muslims like Marina may draw others to her faith, not the other hypocrites who behave worse than animals.

Gotcha: Marina, I really admire you although I am not a Christian. Our Kampong Boy Leader who supported and gave a thumbs up to Selangor Umno to rally is not fit to be in line to lead Malaysia at all. Our leaders are making Malaysians look like fools by keeping their silence.

Born Free: Silence is not golden with the time bomb ticking while our country’s leaders snooze away. Marina Mahathir had managed to cool the situation and show the way as a good and true Muslim, which our leaders have failed to.

If more moderate Muslims had appeared at the church, Malaysia's image of tolerance for other religions would be enhanced and the federal constitution secured.

Anonymous #79199503: We have more important issues like rising costs to think about than to merely be emotional about religion. Crudely put, religion is personal and does not bring food to the table or pay the bills.

Onyourtoes : Dear Marina, since when have our national leaders portrayed any leadership when it comes to governing this country? Has it not ever occurred to you that everything is based on expediency and the dictates of the right wind extremists?

It is not just the 'Allah' issue. Everything is messed up, from the management of our economy to regulating and controlling immigrants to protecting personal security and safety. If you care to observe closely, everything is pandering to the demands of one of the following groups: Umno activists, the extremists, the cronies, the bigots, the civil servants, the monopolists and the cartelists.

The saddest part is most the people are made nincompoops by endless indoctrination schemes being routinely dished out every day. This is the reality today - the common folks are not just fighting the government.

They are faced with the whole spectrum of vested interest groups from the ruling elite, their families and beneficiaries, cronies, civil servants, monopolists, cartelists to bigots camouflaged in religious attire.

Truthseeker: Who started all this political nonsense? It was your dear daddy former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Marina. He should be the one to come out to calm all those blindly led, arrogant and aggressive nuts and fools and apologise for what he had said years ago about the Allah issue as it was wrong.

In fact, what is happening now in the whole country is a consequence of what Mahathir had done when he was in power. Mahathir wasn't, and never will be, a statesman. He is just a very shrewd, cunning, cruel and self-serving ordinary politician

Daniel: Kudos, Marina. But the problem is you should go home and rap your father's knuckles because the conspiracy began in 1988 or thereabouts, when most of the state assemblies enacted the state laws prohibiting the use of the so-called Islamic words by non‑Muslims.

Also to be blamed are all the non‑Muslim MPs and Aduns for keeping silent all this time. MCA especially, so much for your facing up to political reality.

Multi Racial: It is sad that we have leaders who are only interested in power and wealth. They also say things that will make them popular rather than things that are good for the country. Yet, these people claim to be similar to the late Nelson Mandela of South Africa. No, no, no.

To compare Umno with Mandela is an insult to Mandela. Mandela would never allow this Allah row to start in the first place. These people are just the opposite of Mandela. They are racists, opportunists, selfish and above all, irresponsible.

Freethinker : Thank Marina for all your support and proof that Islam and Christianity can coexist peacefully. You had spoken out bravely and you are a true Muslim. Unfortunately our leaders are blind, mute and deaf until the next GE.
