Several areas in Kuching were hit by flash floods yesterday after hours of continuous rain since 3pm.
The affected areas included Batu Kawa, Matang and Gita, with roads under inches of flood waters.
However, the flood waters started to recede by 7pm and it was reported that no untoward incident happened during the flash floods.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the rainy weather will continue throughout Sarawak for a few more days.
There were still 291 flood victims at three relief centres in the state until yesterday evening.
A spokesperson for National Security Council (MKN) Sarawak said the three flood relief centres were the Tatau sports hall in Bintulu, the Bakum community hall at Marudi, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Iran at Suai - both in Miri.
"There are 99 flood victims from 27 families at the Tatau sports hall, 132 (30 families) at the Bakum community hall and 60 (18 families) at the Kampung Iran school," he said when contacted yesterday.
Meanwhile, MKN Sarawak is monitoring the situation in the Batu Kawa area following rising flood waters due to heavy rain since yesterday evening.
"If the need arises, a relief centre will be opened to temporary house flood victims from the affected area," the spokesperson said.
