DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang has urged the cabinet to decide to cut all government funding, via state agencies, to right-wing Malay rights group Perkasa, which he said is working against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's 1Malaysia policy.

“The cabinet, in its first meeting of the new year, must review the subject of government funding of Perkasa to determine who had been sabotaging Najib's 1Malaysia policy and the 'Global Movement of Moderates'.

“Or had Najib, as a conscious public policy, been deliberately sabotaging his own signature policy? This would place Najib at the Machiavellian worst,” Lim ( left ) said in a statement.

He was referring to the weekly cabinet meeting tomorrow.

If the cabinet does not plug funds flowing Perkasa's way, he said, it will only make a mockery of the PM locally and abroad as he has been “strutting the world stage” selling his brand of moderation.

Last month, Perkasa leadership admitted to have received funds from agencies like the National Security Council, National Civic Bureau and Special Affairs Department, all of which are under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department.

However, Perkasa argued that the funding was no more than what other NGOs also receive.

The admission, however, invited a slew of criticism from Umno's partners in the BN, some of whom have been on the receiving end of Perkasa's attacks.

The revelation comes after Jempol MP and former Umno vice-president Isa Samad said that Perkasa should not claim it can do better than Umno in defending Malay rights as Perkasa, too, has greatly benefitted from the Umno-led federal government.
