Marina flayed for defending Christians

Ferdtan: What Marina Mahathir and her group consisting of quite a number of women did for showing solidarity with the besieged Christians at a Klang church was worth a million in good publicity for religious goodwill and harmony than any self-serving politician - from either side.

It is even more praiseworthy that she and a few of them are Muslims themselves who came to defend the other side (Christians). You wouldn’t find any Muslim leaders, Umno or Pakatan Rakyat, brave enough to come to the church to stand their ground to lend support.

We saw on front page the wonderful picture of Marina and her friends with roses along with the Christian pastor and church members in the The Star (for once The Star has done the right thing).

This picture is a powerful image - if this is done often by moderate Muslims in defiance of the troublemakers, the Muslim extremists - the battle for religious harmony will be won.

The majority of the moderate Muslims, most are silent in voicing their opinion as they are afraid of being ostracised by their vociferous extremist counterparts, would be encouraged by such a brave act by Marina.

Well done, Marina. This act alone has atone a little of the sins of your father.

Aries46: As it stands the issue of exclusivity of the Arabic word ‘Allah’ that predates Islam is said to infringe on the constitutional rights of non-Muslims. It is also said to be misplaced in that it is not within the realm of Islam as practiced anywhere else in the Muslim world.

Marina as known to Malaysians is a good Muslim that practices her faith with conviction and in her heart a humanitarian who seeks the best for all Malaysians.

It is apparent that her consolatory actions at Our Lady of Lourdes church on Sunday were in the spirit of her known convictions, i.e. to give her hand of friendship and concern to the parishioners who were under siege.

Looking at the facts of the issue what Marina has done is in the true spirit of Islam as a religion of peace and for a larger cause of preserving racial unity in our beloved land.

Zen: All over the world in Muslim countries, Islam is on the rise - Palestine, Turkey, Egypt and other Arab countries. Malaysia is no exception.

Therefore, the majority of Muslim population in Malaysia will pay no heed to people like Marina who is trying to get cheap publicity by going against the Muslim sentiments in this country.

Debater: Marina is not defending Christians. She is defending our constitution like any real Malaysian should. She is also defending Islam from being hijacked by these fake Muslims.

CQ Muar: Perkasa, your ingrained racism got the better of you. Just because you are incapable to live in harmony and peace by being sensible and sensitive, you unjustly slammed Marina with all those insults.

What motive does she need for showing solidarity - contrary to your vicious demeanour and vile towards non-Muslim Malaysians? Perhaps you erroneously imagined this country solely belongs to you or Umno - which prompted you to act aggressively.

Notwithstanding your misdeeds and hatred against non-Muslims, you would do well to co-exist, reform and learn to live harmoniously regardless of race or religion, thus earn the respect you craved for.

Oh, by the way, Marina doesn't need 'cheap' publicity, Irwan Fahmi. She is loved, respected and a beacon of peace, sense and sensibility, got it?

Onyourtoes: Marina, we appreciate what you believe in and what you have done. But my take is this: only you can do it without severe repercussion.

If it is any other Malay and Muslim woman, they would by now do a butt dance in front of your house and calling for your arrest and imprisonment.

Dr Suresh Kumar: Did you know Proton Iswara carries the name of Lord Shiva? What happens if the Hindus too claim exclusivity to the word ‘Iswara’? Wouldn't it be ridiculous?

Extremism in any form poses immense threat to civil society, so let's build bridges like Marina and bring Malaysia back to its glory years, the pre-Mahathir and Anwar era. May the all powerful and merciful, whoever it is, bless Malaysia.

Perkasa Youth head Irwan Fahmi Ideris, Marina is living up true to her Islamic credentials, that she is immensely proud of. While you and your cohorts are bent on creating anarchy and destroying the social fabric of our beloved country, she is trying to build bridges.

Why don't you go and protest in front of Putrajaya, Umno's citadel, for Umno plunders the national coffers dry with impunity?

Vijay47: Nobody would be surprised with this latest statement from Perkasa. I suppose the next allegation would be that Marina and colleagues are closet Christians or worse, Shiites.

But what is surprising is that any Muslim displaying the nobler aspects of mankind is immediately condemned as agents of undefined conspiracies. On the contrary, the icons of Islam in Malaysia are Hasan Ali and Harussani Zakaria who to top it, is a mufti!

These lost creatures are the real enemies of Islam. Not that I am bothered.
