Penang Umno deputy chief Reezal Merican Naina Merican has accused DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng of inciting problems in order to portray his party as the best choice for handling inter-faith issues.

 

He urged Lim’s father and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to educate Guan Eng to be a “responsible and law-abiding” leader first, before going on to preach about national unity and reconciliation.

 

“What happened in Selangor was done based on legal provisions. As a chief minister (of Penang), Guan Eng should know and understand this.

 

“Of late, Guan Eng has been unabashedly playing the role of an instigator ( batu api ) so that problems would occur, including issues related to the church and the use of the word ‘Allah’.

 

“BN parties had been pitted against each other to portray DAP as the ‘best party’ to handle interfaith and interracial issues in Malaysia,” Reezal ( left ) said in a statement today.

 

It is noted that Guan Eng had issued several press statements regarding the controversy surrounding the use of the word ‘Allah’ as the Malay translation for God in the Bible.

 

Among others, he had condemned MIC, MCA and Gerakan for working with Selangor Umno, while the latter threatened to protest in front of a church.

 

Meanwhile in his statement, Reezal also posed several questions to Guan Eng, urging him to respond to all Malaysians.

 

Among others, he queried whether DAP no longer respects the federal constitution and the rule of law in Malaysia, and whether the party rejects the position of Islam as the religion of the federation.
