The wife of the man who walked from Kuala Besut to Putrajaya last year today denied that her husband, Mohd Noor Mat, 46, had died as reported last night in a post on Facebook .

    

Zamilah Abdul Latiff, 45, said Mohd Noor was well and was discharged from the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, at 11am yesterday.

    

Mohd Noor was rushed to the hospital on Sunday after a group of men assaulted him near the Besut Municipal Council hall in Gong Kemuntong, Jerteh, with a blunt object, injuring him badly in the head, ears and eyes until he fainted.

    

His brother, Azli Mat, lodged a report on the incident at the Kampung Raja police station.

    

Zamilah said she was sad that people would go to such lengths as to make a false report on Facebook , even to the extent of uploading a photograph of people carrying a coffin.

She said her husband, who works at the Besut branch of the Terengganu Islamic Foundation (YIT), had recovered and was able to walk normally.

    

They had no intention of taking legal action with regard to the Facebook post but would leave it to the police to conduct the investigation into the assault of her husband, she said.

    

On Sept 22 last year, Mohd Noor, who has seven children aged four to 22, walked from Kuala Besut to Putrajaya to fulfill a wish he had made should the Barisan Nasional win the Besut seat in the 13th general election last May.

600km covered in 12 days

    

Mohd Noor covered the 600 kilometres in 12 days under the Walk4Malaysia programme and was greeted by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the finish line.

    

Meanwhile, in Kuala Terengganu, state CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the police were looking for a contractor over his alleged involvement in the assault of Mohd Noor.

   

The police raided the 51-year-old man's house but failed to find him there, he said, adding that the suspect could be hiding elsewhere.

    

Manoharan also advised those who had posted the report on the 'death' of Mohd Noor on Facebook to stop spreading such news, and warned that they could be prosecuted.
