Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has detained a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist organisation under the Internal Security (ISA).      

In a statement here today, the ministry said Masyhadi Mas Selamat, 25, had been detained under the Act for a period of two years beginning Nov 21, 2013.     

It said Masyhadi was arrested in Indonesia on Oct 20, 2013 and deported to Singapore on Oct 30, 2013.      

The statement added that two other Singaporeans, Zakaria Rosdan, 23, and Muhammad Khairul Sofri Osman, 29, were placed on Restriction Orders (RO) under the ISA also for a period of two years from Dec 2013.

It said the duo were inspired to undertake violent jihad in places of conflict like Syria.

On another note, the ministry said another ISA detainee, Mohd Azmi Ali, was released from detention on Dec 15, 2013 and placed on RO.      

Azmi, who was detained under the ISA in Dec 2009, was a JI member who had taken refuge overseas to avoid detection by the Singapore authorities following the security operations against the JI network in Dec 2001.     

It was assessed that he no longer posed a security threat that required preventive detention, the statement said.     

The statement added that ROs against six JI members were allowed to lapse between Dec 2013 and Jan 2014.      

They were Mohamad Anuar Margono, Ja’afar Mistooki, Mohamed Ellias Mohamed Khan, Hashim Abas, Mohamed Nazir Mohmmed Uthman and Hosnay Awi.      

They had been cooperative and responsive to rehabilitation efforts, the statement said.
