Umno profits from Muslims being put under siege
YOURSAY ‘Islam has deteriorated into a religion that is scared of its own shadow.’
Migration led to use of 'Allah', not propagation
Geronimo: The mainstream church in Sarawak is Sidang Injil Borneo or SIB, which has been established in the state since 1928.
Now with the word 'Injil' is banned, is the church expected to change its name? Luckily the Roman Catholic Church does not bear such resemblance, otherwise would Umno Baru expect the Catholics to change the name 'Roman Catholic' to something else.
Once again, this is pure lunacy.
Not Confused: The Islamic "authorities" (which includes the government and any Islamic NGO) are on a hopeless crusade. Nowhere on the planet is a human being prosecuted for using any specific word or words.
Policing such a ridiculous piece or pieces of legislation to ensure adherence is futile and logistically impossible.
It’s pretty clear that the government is hell-bent on creating and escalating an artificial issue to distract attention from other more important issues facing the country.
The only reason that these words are being hijacked for the exclusive use of Muslims here (only in Malaysia, remember) is supposedly to stop conversions to Christianity and so that Muslims are not confused.
All I can say is that Islam has deteriorated into a religion that is scared of its own shadow, fearful and in a siege situation where it is being threatened from every angle.
Is that really the image that Muslims want for themselves? I think not. It hasn't been my view until now.
Kamikasi: When did the Arabic words become exclusive only for Malay Muslims. For God's sake, these are Arabic words which have specific meaning in the culture.
Aren't Malaysians going to be the butt of more jokes around the world? It’s just like making certain English words exclusive only to the ‘Orang Putih’ and the Bible, and therefore all the words found in the Bible must not appear in the Quran (translated English version).
I can foresee the chaos if we were to use Malaysian approach to solve religious issues around the world.
Zen: The Selangor sultan should not listen to the inferior race in this country for they are just immigrants. Let them bark but continue to use power to bar them from becoming over zealous.
They should not forget their Kunta Kinta roots so that they know where they stand as enshrined in the ‘Malay’ constitution.
Optimist: Zen, go back to the cave where you originated from. If there are more of your kind, this wonderful land of ours will perish.
CHKS: It is very laughable for Bahasa Malaysia-speaking Christians to use all these 34 so-called ban words, except for no 1, 2, 9, 15, 16, 17, 23 and it is also ridiculous for non-Muslims not to use certain of these words like ‘Nabi’ and ‘Sheikh’.
I have friends with 'Sheikh’ as part of their name. So how am I going to address him or write his name down? How am I going to address Prophet Nabi Muhammad?
All these happened years ago when Christians were too ‘heavenly’ minded to care about earthly matters. Christians had just awoken from their slumbers.
Where were the Christian lawmakers when these state acts were being passed? MCA and Gerakan were in power then. Clearly, they were too comfortable to rock the boat.
And these words merely concern BM-speaking Christians from Borneo. Semenanjung English-speaking Christians probably couldn't care less back then until it affects the whole church in Malaysia.
There are a few hypothetical ways to get this done:
1) Raid all BM churches in these 10 states, and fill up our prisons with these Christians.
2) Change the state law.
3) Split up Sabah and Sarawak from Semenanjung and all Sarawakians/Sabahans to go back, those with intermarriage can chose either to be a Sarawakian/Sabahan or citizen in Semenanjung.
4) Get to the big fight.
I would think Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) should challenge Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) in court to settle once for all that the state enactment is ultra vires.
It is anticipated to be a long painful process but not to do so may affect not only this generation but the generations to come. BM-speaking Christians would continue to live in fear in these 10 states and run the risk of being persecuted.
YUNoAnon: Christians and people in general should stop hoping for miracles and do something. You are given the ability to make decisions. So go and do something. Fight for your rights.
The federal constitution gives you your rights. Anyone who challenges you, declare them unconstitutional and bring them all the way to the Federal Court. I am eager to see where this all ends up. Either a government compromises or the country breaks up.
MacMac: Islam is being made a tool of politics by Umno/BN for their survival. Period.
Ban East M’sian Christians from the peninsula
