GiatMara Sdn Bhd was ordered to vacate its premises at Taman Selayang Baru without being given an option to upgrade its training facilities, a BN Selangor MP said today.

MP for Tanjung Karang Noh Omar was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia that based on two letters received from the Gombak Land and District office, the vocational school for bumiputra youths was simply ordered to vacate within a year from Dec 9, 2013. Noh charged that Selangor Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had twisted facts when he said that the state government was taking over the building for an upgrade.

“The consideration to give the training centre a chance to keep operating is not stated,” Noh ( right ), who is also a former agriculture minister, said. He was pictured holding up the letters in the Umno-owned paper.

Abdul Khalid had said on Wednesday that the state government intends to upgrade the place and set up an aviation repair centre to train youths, unless there is compliance with its notice.

Khalid also claimed that the vocational school was not up to the mark.

Utusan Malaysia , meanwhile, reported that GiatMara chairperson Jaujan Sambakong as saying he welcomed the state’s plan to upgrade the school but also asked for official proof.

“I am happy that they finally agreed (to let us continue operations) but the decision must be stated in black and white... don’t let happen that we follow their conditions, spend big, and suddenly they order our operations to shut down,” he was quoted as saying.

Since its establishment in 1986, GiatMara has produced 301,327 technically-skilled workers from its vocational schools, Jaujan recounted. In Selangor alone, it has 24 training centres with 1,959 trainers.
