Despite online news reports about alleged unity talks between Umno dan Pakatan Rakyat, PKR secretary-general remains adamant that he has little knowledge of the matter.

"I only know about this through media reports," Saifuddin told Malaysiakini when contacted today.

He was asked about media reports that the purported talks were not going well because the opposition reportedly lacked trust in Umno's sincerity.

The reports alleged that Prime Minister Najib Razak was also having trouble convincing top Umno policymakers to buy into setting up a unity government with Pakatan, supposedly to be headed by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Saifuddin refused to confirm or deny the existence of such talks, saying he would "call a press conference" if he had any comments to make.

News site Asia Sentinel reported last year that Anwar had purportedly confirmed that Najib was indeed making overtures to the opposition coalition for a unity government.

This follows BN making its worst ever general election showing in recent history, losing more seats since the 2008 political tsunami, and garnering only 47 percent of the popular vote despite commanding a 44-seat majority in the 222-seat parliament.
