The search team looking for eight missing passengers of a capsized longboat found the body of a woman today.

The body of Nursiah Abdullah, 45, was recovered at 2.56 pm in the Batang Lassa near where the boat capsized in Daro, about 150km south-west of Mukah, said Matu/Daro police chief DSP Wagner Lisa Libut.

The body has been taken to the Daro Hospital, he said.

Seven people are still missing after the longboat carrying 27 people capsized on the Batang Lassa near Kampung Kut in Daro at about 1pm yesterday.

The villagers of Kampung Tekajong were returning to their village after attending a wedding in Kampung Saai when a huge wave capsized the boat.

Sixteen passengers saved themselves, three women drowned and eight people went missing following the mishap.

The recovery of Nursiah’s body today raises to four the number of passengers who drowned in the mishap.
