With excise duties, NAP another 'empty promise'

YOURSAY ‘The policy is decided and managed by AP kings, cronies and vested-interest groups.’

Why NAP 2014 'won't bring down car prices'

YUNoAnon: And therein lies the crux of the issue - excise duties are still not reduced and APs not abolished. This is rightly pointed out by PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli.

International Trade and Industry Ministry Mustapa Mohamad, is this National Automotive Policy 2014-2020 (NAP) an example of the brains at work ?

Awakened: Since owning a car for a family is almost a necessity, PM Najib Abdul Razak should abolish the taxes imposed on car sales. If these tax burden on the rakyat is eliminated, the withdrawal of subsidy for petrol is okay.

The exorbitant excise duties and sales tax has been burdening the rakyat for two decades. It is time the government follow other countries in lowering taxes for cars.

By auctioning the approved permits (APs), the government can also collect additional income to offset the loss of excise duties.

Onyourtoes: Customised incentives are nothing but crony capitalism. Before you liberalise the industry, you are creating more distortions for corruption and favouritism to take place.

What happened to all the grants given to certain parties in the past supposedly for research and development and to help them build up competitive capacity?

International Trade and Industry Ministry, you do not make automobile policy for this country. The policy is decided and managed by AP kings, cronies and vested-interest groups.

They will tell you when and how to perpetuate the crony system of APs and other regulations and control until that gravy train, with all of you on board, crashed in Cassandra Crossing.

Kangkung speech, kangkung promise, kangkung policy. What an appropriate illustration - almost divine - kangkung is empty inside.

Doc: Umno has send a clear message to the rakyat on their insistence in continuing with issuance of AP.

Umno is not bothered about reducing the car prices and helping the rakyat out but is more concerned with ensuring that their Umnoputra cronies benefit from the APs, are well taken care off, and can go on making money on the backs of the rakyat.

Anonymous_3da0: If there is no effective public transport system (which takes years to put in place given the current standards) then car prices are a primary issue affecting people's discretionary income.

Myop101: Actually, I would prefer the government focus on building better public transportation system, better township planning and improving security. Lowering car prices could then be a secondary matter.

Anonymous #44199885: Politicians are like Greeks bearing gifts, only in the Malaysian case, we are worse off as they only made promises of gifts - the reduction in prices of cars.

Thaipusam ignites racist rants on Twitter

Pemerhati: Umno has been in the business of creating racial tension all this time as it thinks that it gains from it politically. Previously they used cow and pig heads, and the ‘Allah’ word.

Now they have also started using Twitter and Facebook to carry on with the same sort of mischief.

Umno will go to any length, including threatening May 13 to remain in power, because most of them are fully aware that they will be brought to justice for the many crimes they have committed if they lose power.

ACR: All the police reports in the world will not bring any action against these uncouth scoundrels for they epitomise the thinking of the party ruling us.

Continue-The-March: In Singapore, anybody who dares to tweet and send emails of this nature will be hurled up and charged in court and dealt with immediately.

But in Umno Baru Malaysia, all is okay if you are from the right party. Try sending the same type of message to ridicule Islam. The whole police force will spring into action. But attacking minorities is okay. Shame on Umno Baru.

Vijay47: I am by no means defending morons who write such rubbish, but this kind of idiots are always around. Malaysiakini , why do you lend them credence by publishing an article on the acts for a few miserable people?

The problem is made to seem much bigger than it really is and the item merely serves to spoil our day. In any case, such fanaticism is just another day at the Umno office.

Old Timer: It’s high time the Umno-BN government should stop all this racism in Malaysia. PM Najib, please speak up against racism decisively.

Trublumalaysian: Just imagine the damage Umno Baru via former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has done to lead to these unwarranted tweeter rants.

What a real shame to see Islam brought down by some to this level of bigotry and hate against other religions.

CiViC: BN and Najib are laughing off in their sleep. They have successfully ignited racial and religious tension throughout Malaysia. This is how BN intends to stay in power.

Be United: Remain calm even if they try to ignite hatred with all these kind of derogatory words. Remaining patient by going to a place of worship.

After going for prayers, we all should be more forgiving. If we fail to do that, then the prayers we carry out will bring about more negative effects than good.

Oriole: BN, read it and be proud of your handiwork. Fifty-six years of segregation, racist education and ethnic labelling has produced this sort of a low-grade racist nation. Read it and be proud.

Sleepy: The religion has always been manipulated for selfish political gain by authorities who want to 'protect' the religion and the 'confused' people from being 'insulted'. If there is any dissent - perceived or real - then instill fear and violence.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Why is the MCMC (Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission) and police keeping quiet?

The persons who allegedly made these comments ought to be investigated under the Multimedia and Communications Act, the Sedition Act and the Penal Code.

The remarks, if true, are derogatory of Indians and Hindus. Or is action only taken if the comments are directed at Malays and Muslims?

Anonymous #33227154: Dear Malaysians, don't be fooled by these racist remarks. The majority of mainstream Muslims are not like this.

These racist remarks are fired and purposely planted by certain groups to incite racial hatred. Let's not be fooled and fall into their trap.
