PKR’s Lee Khai Loon did not mean to insult Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak with his kangkung-themed flash mob last week, and as such, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said the question of apologising does not arise.

Speaking to reporters after the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting, Anwar ( right, in photo ) today said that he did not find there was any intention to hurt or insult in Lee's actions.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang had yesterday suggested that Lee, who is Machang Bubuk assemblyperson, apologise over his Jan 16 flash mob.

Present at today’s press conference himself, Lim reiterated that his opinion was a personal one and was not representative of a Pakatan Rakyat collective stand.

"I commend Lee for taking the initiative in organising the flash mob, but I think we should be extra sensitive in doing any demonstrations," Lim said.

Counter protest

Lee's flash mob had drawn a counter protest by Penang Umno, in which they had asked whether DAP would like a repeat of the May 13 racial riots.

Lim admitted that vigilance is necessary when organising demonstrations so that certain quarters do not pounce on the opportunity to spin a racial tone to the actions of Pakatan leaders.

Anwar, however, said that Pakatan will not impose a gag order to its members to stop such racial issues from flaring up.

"I just hope people exercise restraint and there must be decorum in expressing themselves. We in Pakatan do not believe in issuing gag orders," he said.
