The government has yet to make a decision on the proposal to sell RON95 petrol only to eligible groups of people, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today.

“There is no decision as yet,” he told a news conference after chairing a meeting of the Umno supreme council in Kuala Lumpur.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said yesterday that RON95 petrol was expected to be sold only to the poor to ensure that all government subsidies were enjoyed only by eligible Malaysians.

The Umno secretary-general, who was present at today’s news conference, said he had provide an explanation on the matter and what he had said yesterday was misreported.

RON95 petrol now sells for RM2.10 per litre (with a subsidy of 63 sen) while RON97 sells for RM2.80.
