Umno protesters should be probed for sedition
YOURSAY ‘When getting the opposition, the police are fleet-footed.’
'No double standard, pro-Najib rallies also probed'
Louis: Penang police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi, are you sure the police are not practising double standard?
They were quick to act on Machang Bubuk state assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon for the Jan 15 flash mob , which saw a handful of protesters placing about 10kg of kangkung in the mouth of a Styrofoam cutout in PM Najib Razak's likeness. Clearly, the police saw this act offensive.
On the other hand, when those Umno backers displayed banners with incendiary and inflammatory messages, the police appeared not being able to read. Till now it is still in the process of investigating.
When it comes to getting the opposition, the police are fleet-footed. When it comes to getting Umno offenders, the police’s legs suddenly are cast in lead.
Abdul Rahim, does a mad man say that he is mad? Similarly, would the police - which has and still practises double standard - say that it is practising double standard? The whole world knows that it is, yet you still want to deny it.
Longjaafar: So they will be probed for having an illegal gathering, not for sedition, in spite of threatening another May 13 racial riots during a rally in Seberang Jaya on Jan 18. That's not double standard...
Curi Satu Malaysia: "They will be subjected to the same law. They will be probed under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA), which states, among others, that organisers have to give police 10 days’ notice (prior to) an event," said Abdul Rahim.
Abdul Rahim, you are totally disqualified to sit in your position. How could Malay rights lobby group Perkasa only be probed under PAA? They should be charged under the Sedition Act for openly threatening to launch a riot same as the ones in May 13, 1969.
Do you actually know the seriousness of this issue? You must be fired for taking the sides of these provocateurs.
Lim Chong Leong: Probed both sides? More like having coffee with Umno and Perkasa while torturing Pakatan Rakyat and its supporters. We have the facts and figures.
Look at former transport minister Dr Ling Liong Sik’s interrogation in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) cheating case and political aide Teoh Beng Hock’s interrogation.
Also look at former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo’s questioning and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's black eye case in 1998. And Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali’s one-day jail at the cafeteria in Kuala Lumpur court complex.
This is not just double standard but police sub-standard.
Mosquitobrain: Abdul Rahim, two men were attacked during a rally on Jan 19 by Penang Umno members and their allies, and the displaying of May 13 banners were carried out by the same group of ‘paid people’ to create trouble.
You do not need crime scene investigators or to call in Scotland Yard to investigate and nail the culprits.
Mushiro: Abdul Rahim makes it very obvious that he works for Umno and at the same time pretends some actions are being taken against the Umno culprits who beat up two bystanders.
Anonymous_4056: Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican wasn't even called in to have his statement taken. He committed sedition of the highest order but Lee was crucified instead.
Sudah lah polis. You got no credibility but never mind, you get fully paid with full benefits and fast-tracked promotion.
MockingYou: PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police), what took you so long to announce this revelation? After the heat became unbearable?
Anyway, good on you Abdul Rahim for being spot on regarding checks and balances. Hopefully this is not limited to vegetables or price hikes only.
Aries46: No double standards? Abdul Rahim is either blabbering in his sleep or is under the illusion that Malaysians are a dumb lot.
If only Rahim had half the courage he proclaims, poor long-suffering Penangities would have been spared the litany of protests, demonstrations and hooliganism by regime goons and hangers-on ever since BN was booted out in 2008.
Nevertheless, considering his limitations by virtue of obligations to his political masters one can’t be too harsh on him. But is it too much to expect him to exercise his powers to rein in the criminals that attacked the two men on Sunday? Unless even that has been denied to him!
Malaysiancare: Questioning pro-Najib demonstrators is for show only, to show that PRDM is not practising double standard.
If this call for another May 13 was by opposition members, they would have been locked up without trial. Is this not double standard?
SpongeBob: Public perception shows that the police are pro-Najib. Abdul Rahim’s denial is mere waste of time. Stop manipulating the public with your hidden agenda. If the police officers are interested in Umno politics, resign and join them.
Onyourtoes: I think it is useless to talk about the impartiality and professionalism of police anymore. It is too unrealistic for the people to expect and too daunting a task for the police to perform.
