Caring for the welfare of people at the grassroots level is the among the major benchmark in the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) approved by the Umno supreme council yesterday.

Its secretary-general, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said via the benchmark, each Umno division and branch must list the needs of the people and voice them to the government.

"Every member should monitor the situation on the ground so that the government can help the people effectively," he told a press conference at the Kuala Linggi Rural Transformation Centre in Alor Gajah today.

Earlier, he opened the carnival of Masjid Tanah Umno division led by Mas Ermieyanti Samsuddin, who is also the Puteri Umno chief.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Razak said that the KPI will ensure that work can be implemented more systematically.

Najib, who is also Umno president, said each supreme council member will be responsible for monitoring the KPI of divisions while the division chiefs will monitor the branches.

Tengku Adnan said in addition to taking care of the people's welfare, recruiting new members and increasing the number of new voters are among the major benchmark for the KPI.

"Basically, we want to ensure that every Umno member and family members become voters and Umno members. The same goes for their friends. I hope to see additional members in every division monthly," he added.
