It is wrong for any non-native to convert into a native just for the sake of buying native customary rights (NCR) land.

State land development minister James Jemut Masing said the state government was very steadfast on the situation.

"We even have a state cabinet committee to look after NCR land to prevent any illegal transaction or dealing," he said.

Masing ( left ) was speaking to reporters after officiating at the house-warming ceremony of a new 16-door Rh Seli anak Nyambong in Ulu Lioh near Julau today.

Accompanied by Julau member of parliament Joseph Salang, Masing also commissioned the longhouse water and power supply projects.

"However, if they are legally married to a native, that is alright. There is the merit.

"But if they go for the conversion, just to acquire NCR land, this is wrong and should not be encouraged.

"I hope relevant bodies like the land and survey department, district or resident offices will be aware of any such act or attempt," he said.

Meanwhile, Masing reminded NCR landowners that they had now another official option to develop such land by getting the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority to help them.
