Beating in custody shows police brutality truly systemic

YOURSAY ‘When you start to abuse a person, you would not stop doing it.’

Scarred for life, probably, from police beatings

1braincell: When a ferocious Rottweiler randomly mauls innocent passers-by, we put the dog down and sue its owner. PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) has already been "put down" time and again by a disgusted rakyat as Umno's security guard.

They say dogs are an expression of their owners' identity. Glorified samseng in high office will always protect their uniformed goons. Police are expected to investigate, interrogate, even intimidate (if a suspect is hostile and uncooperative).

But if they humiliate, mutilate and torture half to death, they must be charged with criminal assault, abuse of power, indiscipline and pathological misconduct.

Those cops responsible must be brought to court and if found guilty be sacked and sentenced to at least three years in psychotherapy.

Their owners are obviously an uncouth and unruly bunch and must be booted out of power.

MegabigBLUR: Yet another case of police brutality. It sounds like this poor guy (contractor Zul Hilmi Abdul Rahman) narrowly escaped being yet another death in custody.

Wira: Didn't he beat himself to a pulp? It had been demonstrated, albeit comically in Bolehland, that a person could even strangle himself with his own hands or give himself a black eye.

Samurai: The police are faultless. They can't help it if people suddenly die of asthma or fatty liver, trip over their toes and fall and die, getting their ears stapled as they hit the ground, sustaining multiple internal injuries.

People who go into lockup are plain clumsy. Others do not know how to use a door and end up exiting through a third storey window. Others commit suicide because they are too happy about getting married.

As one official said, there is no crime in stupidity.

YUNoAnon: What "allegations"? Go view the CCTVs. Even more suspicious, how did the victim get injured so badly while in lock-up? If you dare say he beat himself up, then I will petition for you to be sent for mental evaluation because you're clearly not fit to be a police officer.

You fail at deductive reasoning, you fail at conducting detailed investigation and you fail at being unbiased in carrying out your duties.

Wira, thanks for reminding us of that stupidity. I laugh myself silly when I see that video . To think a lawyer could suggest such an argument and even demonstrate his theory, as stupid as it was, is so demeaning towards his profession.

And to the victim, Zul Hilmi, be strong and fight this all the way until you get justice for yourself and your family. If you have been rendered incapable of working for the rest of your life, the PDRM and government must be made accountable for you and your family now.

So please, sue them until they admit their guilt.

Moontime: How do we stop police brutality? When even the PDRM is in denial, this issue will keep on haunting Malaysians. Is this a covert way of the police to instil fear and submission to the force?

Pemerhati: Since the police help the Umno dictatorship to remain in power and protects the Umno members when they indulge in criminal activities such as corruption, rape and murder, the Umno government will not take any action against them for any wrongdoing.

That is why they have been getting away with murdering and maiming innocent civilians. The only solution to this mayhem caused by the police is to get rid of the Umno-led government.

Tiredofsuchnonsense: The Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission) is the only solution ( IPCMC). Every fair-minded Malaysian should demand for the IPCMC to be instituted, nothing less.

Sali Tambap: Abuse is an evil disease. When you start to abuse a person, you would not stop doing it. Too often we saw that.

A father while cleaning his car saw his three-year old son playing with his cigarettes. In anger he took an iron wrench, beat his son's hand until all the fingers were cut off. He regretted it for the rest of his life but the damage was done.

The abuse by the police is a disease beyond their control. They abuse people until their victims are incapacitated or dead. These police personnel should be rehabilitated in psychiatric hospital and should be left there until they are healed.

Cry, My Beloved Country: Mr IGP (inspector-general of police), this happened under your watch. What are you doing about it? Are the allegations not serious enough to warrant investigation and action?

Continue-The-March: Why is Perkasa not protesting now that a Malay Muslim was assaulted by the polis Umno Baru? Isn't Perkasa supposed to protect Malays instead waiting for PKR to stand behind the victim? Care to comment, Ibrahim Ali.

Anonymous_3e06: Zul, I feel sorry for you and your wife but this is the type of police we have in the country. It is not about one bad apple. The whole system needs a change from top to the bottom. It is a disgrace.

James1067: Billions wasted on latest equipments, training, overseas study or intelligent gathering trips when primitive ways can be used to solve a case.

Hplooi: This perfectly illustrate the case that if moderate Muslims do not speak up against the fascistic tendencies of the current BN ideology promoted by the extreme right-wing (who dominate the power structure in Malaysia), it will come to bite them severely later when the non-Malays and non-Muslims are fully repressed.

Remember the words of Pastor Martin Niemöller : "First they came for the...”

Onyourtoes: This is one case where Malaysiakini and perhaps other news portals managed to highlight. What about other cases that went unreported?

This baloney must stop. What ISA do you need when police could so often beat people senselessly. Sue the police and those police personnel involved should be sacked.

CiViC: And the errant police officers will be transferred and case closed. Justice? In Malaysia? You can keep on dreaming.

Gravity: Thank God, you didn't end up in the body bag. That is usually reserved for the Indians.
