Two primary school pupils in Perak, who were made to wear bells and likened to cows by their English teacher, have returned to school yesterday following the transfer of the teacher.

According to Berita Harian , the two Standard Four students of SJKC Khai Meng in Sungkai - Muhammad Nasvinder Muhammad Amit dan Mohd Izat Iqbal - were dropped off at school by their respective mothers at 7.30am.  

In the incident last week, the duo were told to eat grass and had a bell hung around each of their necks by the teacher as disciplinary action for failing to complete their homework.

The Malay daily quoted the mother of one of the students, Siti Aisyah Hashim as saying that her son was at first reluctant to go back to school as he feared further punishment and name calling by his peers.

“I had to persuade him by telling that he would have to go to school if he wanted to be smart,” she said.

Meanwhile the parent for the second child, Yarnis Keduma Dewi Zainal Abidin, expressed relief when informed that the teacher in question had been transferred out to another school.

“That is a good move because if the teacher continued to teach (there), this could perhaps scare our children and add to the trauma.

“I hope this incident will serve as a lesson to all educators so that they do not resort to action that goes against the rules,” she reportedly said.
