Hishammuddin: Kajang rep's resignation is absurd
Kajang assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh's resignation to make way for PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to contest the seat is absurd, Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein said today.
Kajang assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh's resignation to make way for PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to contest the seat is absurd, Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein said today.
"It doesn't make sense to do it for fun, but if our (Umno) leaders decide to join the fray, then we will do so," he said.
Hishammuddin said he was not sure why the PKR decided to vacate the seat as it contradicted the principle of its political struggle.
"After the people had gone through a democratic process by going through the election, now at the whim they chose to vacate the seat to force a by-election and I don't understand what they are up to," he told reporters after attending a round table conference on the country's aviation sector in Sepang, Selangor.
Asserting that the people will be able to evaluate the opposition's antics, he said, "For me, it is still a question mark that remains unanswered."
Asked whether the resignation boils down to a personal agenda, Hishammuddin said,"It's up to the people to judge whether the resignation, which is governed by whim, is right. If it's not personal, I don't know what it is."
He said some quarters believed that the resignation was to divert the people's attention from the opposition's internal quagmire.
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has announced that Anwar would be nominated to contest the seat in the coming by-election.
