Anwar 'the great' conjures up a Catch-22

 

PAWANCHEEK B MARICAN: RK Anand says, "As long as there is an overwhelming disdain for BN, which is considered the greater evil, the opposition will be able to escape unscathed with its transgressions."

What opposition transgressions? Anwar will win by a landslide in Kajang.

K B Menon: I cannot understand why some readers are panning Anand's article. It is a balanced viewpoint, not pro-BN or pro-PKR/Pakatan Rakyat, just a matter of stating his take on this issue.

We ordinary mortals are not privy to the real motive or strategy for this move by PKR/Pakatan. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, I dare say the Kajang voters will still vote for PKR/Pakatan, simply because they cannot stand voting for BN.

Anwar and the PKR strategists are banking on this. I hope they did not miscalculate. On a personal level, it grates on my sensitivity that the voters of Kajang are placed in this quandary.

Helen: Despite everything, I will give Anwar Ibrahim a chance. I see Rafizi Ramli's point. We have a serious leadership problem with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak at the helm of the nation. I will judge PKR's attempt during the next general election.

Pemerhati: Khalid’s biggest mistake was that he did not use the money he saved for the benefit of the people. He has allowed the cash hoard to accumulate to RM3 billion and, as pointed out by many observers, the people did not see any significant improvement when Khalid became menteri besar because they had to bear the stench of rotten, uncollected garbage, rats in restaurants, stinking drains and having to drive through pothole-filled roads.

Now, the only difference between Khalid and former Umno menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo is that Khalid saved a lot of money but Khir used the state money for himself to buy houses, etc, and go on Disneyland and other jaunts.

But both of them did not spend the money for the benefit of the people. Khir stole and wasted the money while Khalid just put it into the bank. That cash hoard is now like nectar, which is attracting a lot of bees from BN, and possibly Pakatan as well.

Khalid should now quickly spend that money wisely and show all Malaysians in what way Pakatan is different from BN.

Anwar’s loss will be the opportunity to produce a stronger, more disciplined and accountable PKR which will gather more votes for Pakatan's Putrajaya quest.

PKR people are human and many of them have Umno genes. We cannot give them free rein, or they will become worse than Umno. We should vote PSM this time, then PKR will be disciplined and Putrajaya will remain on track.

Gunnerrun: RK Anand, you sound like RPK when you write and it's a lot of crap. Please get rid of the BN-ness in you. One thing about Anwar is never having a greed for position and power.

No bloody sane MP wants to be put in a position Anwar has put himself in. Just be patient and see how things unfold in due course.

With you jumping the gun with the most inaccurate assessments, what you are doing is harming more than helping.

Anticonmen: Khalid has shown that he can manage Selangor very well, based on the principles of prudent management, transparency and accountability, which are what the rakyat want.

We do not need opportunistic politicians and conmen hoodwinking us with "charisma" and "rhetoric" but have no skills or sincerity in prudent management. What we need is a chief minister who is a professional manager to manage our resources.

He can even be one without charisma and an unimpressive speaker but he must have honesty and professionalism. In short, what is really needed are honest managers and not so-called leaders who cannot even honour their word or the law and collaborate with corrupt cronies to milk the rakyat's coffers.

Malaysia Truly Asia: Don't worry as the days come closer to voting day, Malaysiakini will make it look like voting for Anwar is very, very, very important. You see, everyone is on the gravy train and jumping off before the train stops will be a stupid thing to do.

The only consolation is most of the folk in Kajang are village people and don't read online news, so it’s going to be word of mouth that will settle this. Can't wait to hear Anwar's first ceramah.

Snoopy: Hope Anwar will lose and Khalid stays on as the menteri besar.

505 rakyat: The truth is that it’s about the money in Selangor and the councillors. Khalid won’t let them touch it but they want it. They claim it’s for the party but everyone knows they line their filthy pockets. It’s happening everyday but the public don’t know.

The corrupt businessman who wants an approval, etc, goes to these scum. They make promises, a figure is agreed, which is claimed as the party contribution and when the politicians can’t get it  because of an honest person who won’t play ball, they get angry and they scheme to remove that person and replace with their cronies.

On high value matters, they gang up and fund the removal of the menteri besar. It’s a gang of them, not all, but they control the party in Selangor. They are very angry with the current menteri besar because they want to pay non-market rate premuims for land, they want one-sided joint ventures and they want crazy approvals.

In the past, the difference between the real value of an approval or public assets and the value they got it for (or corrupted it for), went into someone’s pocket...

888: Whatever the reason for Anwar to come to Kajang, voters should never vote BN, for after half a century of BN rule, we know what good or evil they have done to the country.

We just need to see Singapore and imagine what we could have been if BN had ruled this country well. Let the rest of the  rakyat in the BN-run states see for themselves how the Pakatan states are run.
