Unbelievable, but it is true. RM1.09 per kg, that is the price of standard chicken at the Ong Tai Kim Supermarket, Kompleks Idaman in Gombak in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

According to a consumers’ portal, www.1pengguna.com, the supermarket also sells live chicken at the same price per kg, while the price of the medium size 'banana prawn' is RM4.99 per kg and the Blue/Flower crab can be bought for RM3.90 per kg.

Econsave Cash & Carry and Jaya Grocer, both in Cheras, are selling standard chicken for RM3.88 and RM4.99 per kg, respectively.

The normal price of standard chicken is between RM5 and RM7 per kg at the wet markets, supermarkets and hyper supermarkets nationwide.

In Johor, the price of medium size Hardtail Scad (cencaru) is RM3.99 per kg, while coconut is sold for RM1.40 each at the Econsave Cash & Carry in Yong Peng and Kipmart in Masai.

    

The portal also stated that in Sabah, the medium size Sea Beam (kerisi) is RM5 per kg at the Semporna Market and the medium size white squid is RM4 per kg at the Bandar Sandakan market.

For medium-size mackerel (kembung), it is RM1.99 per kg at Tesco in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The price of grade B chicken egg is between RM3.10 and RM3.60 for 10 in Kedah, Malacca (RM3.20-RM3.60), Pahang (RM3.33-RM3.50) and Terengganu (RM3.39-RM4).

The price of standard chicken was the most popular search by visitors at the portal yesterday, followed by sea food, beverages and dried food.

The portal is operated by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.
