DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, in defending Seputeh MP Teresa Kok over her CNY videoclip some claim to be defamatory, reminded police today that they have yet to nab the culprits who defamed his son.

Lim said Kok has been defamed for reportedly poking fun at the nation's security issue in Sabah by none other than Umno and BN, who are "world’s top slanderers”.

He said Kok in her video ( left ), had never mentioned Lahad Datu, which grabbed the limelight last year when a Sulu incursion ended with 10 security personnel killed.

"She never mentioned anyone's name in the clip. Those who do not speak Chinese can create anything," said the Penang chief minister.

"DAP will support her against any attacks by Umno, which wants to play up racial issues and religious extremism, that it can even create a story like this," Lim said.

He explained that Kok in her 11-minute video published in conjunction with Chinese New Year touched on the issue of a kidnapping in Sabah, where a Taiwanese was found murdered.

"This has nothing to do with Lahad Datu," the Bagan MP insisted.

Kok denied insulting anyone in her video, themed "Onederful Malaysia CNY2014", which was uploaded on the social media on Jan 27, saying it was a satirical piece.

Probe is on

Police are looking into the matter and will be thorough in their investigation , Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said, according to a Bernama report.

This made Lim recall an episode where his teenage son, then only 15, was attacked by pro-BN bloggers for allegedly molesting the modesty of a female classmate.

Despite calls to investigate the case, police have yet to take any action on those responsible for spreading the rumour.

Lim also recalled that Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, now youth and sports minister, was among those who jumped on the bandwagon to defame his son with a tweet on Oct 17, 2011.

"Why is there no action on those who spread this slander? They didn't even spare an underaged boy," Lim lamented.

"If they want to speak about Islam, why was there no action against former MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek ( left ) who criticised a PAS candidate for not shaking hands with non-Malay men in the Tenang by election in Johor?"

"The candidate also did not shake hands with Muslim men. It's a woman's right, regardless of race or religion, to choose who she wishes to shake hands with."

Lim also condemned Umno for only wanting to stir up racial sentiments, to hate non-Muslims and non-Malays so that the party could avoid having to answer queries about price hikes.

"This is unlike Pakatan, which wants to focus on the economy. Price hikes affect all communities, regardless of race," Lim said.

He said this at a press conference after launching the Bridge Express Shuttle Transit bus service from Bertam in Seberang Perai Utara to Komtar, where the state's administrative offices are located.

The service will start from Kiosk Bertam to Komtar daily, from 6.40am to 5.20pm, and will be run by bus company Plusliner. Its running cost is RM2.2 million annually.

The free shuttle service, the first of its kind in Malaysia, was mooted by the state government in 2011 and is managed by Rapid Penang.

Since then 13 buses on the main line and four feeder buses have been ferrying passengers across the Penang bridge to the Bayan Lepas free trade zone area on a daily basis.

The cost for running this is RM1.8 million a year, and the service is available from the Sunway Carnival site from 6.30am to 7.50am, and from Bayan Lepas, from 4.30pm to 7.10pm.
