Former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew is in hospital recovering from an infection.

Local Singaporean television Channel NewsAsia reported that a statement from his office today said Lee, 90, had been warded at the Singapore General Hospital since Sunday with a fever and a bad cough.

The statement said he was currently on antibiotics and recovering, and had  been advised by his doctors to avoid public appearances.

As such, Lee will not be attending the Tanjong Pagar GRC Lunar New Year Dinner this evening, it said.

The statement added that said Lee wished all Tanjong Pagar residents and Singaporeans a happy Lunar New Year.
