PKR has urged the police to get the culprits playing "dirty politics" to undermine the party through the fake letter in the name of Hutan Melintang state assemblyperson Kesavan Subramaniam, saying he has left PKR.

PKR said the fake resignation letter, sent to the Perak state assembly yesterday, had lowered the image of the individual and party. PKR also expressed concern that such tactics could become more frequent, if not curbed, as the Kajang by-election neared.

"To spread such lies is not just immoral but criminal as well. Faking the signature of a people's representative is a serious matter that must not be taken lightly,"  Perak PKR vice-chairperson Chang Lih Kang ( left ) said in a statement today.

Chang, who is also Teja assemblyperson, said the party expects police to give this case equal weightage, similar to its recent vigilance of the "kangkung protest" case, Turun rally and on MP Teresa Kok's Chinese New Year video greeting.

He said the availability of closed circuit cameras at Perak state assembly building should further help police to identify the sender of the fake letter.

Form a special task force, speaker urged

Chang was among PKR leaders who lodged a police report at the Ipoh district police headquarters this morning on the letter, hand-delivered by an unknown party yesterday and which was exposed to the media soon afterwards.

Besides calling on the police to act swiftly on the matter, PKR also urged Perak state assembly speaker SK Devamany, whose office received the fake letter, to form a special task force to investigate and prevent a repeat of such a despicable act.

"Such acts insult his standing as assembly speaker and also lower the dignity of the state assembly," Chang said.

He also urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to join in the round of condemnation.

"As the chief executive of the country, Najib should not be silent when the opposition is attacked in such a dirty and despicable manner. A healthy and prudent political culture must be upheld for all parties in the political arena," Chang added.
