Kajang polls disrupt EC's redelineation exercise
The by-election for the Kajang state seat on March 23 has cut into the Election Commission’s (EC) work on a redelineation exercise.
The by-election for the Kajang state seat on March 23 has cut into the Election Commission’s (EC) work on a redelineation exercise.
Chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the sudden resignation of PKR's Lee Chin Cheh from the seat on Jan 27 had caught the EC by surprise and forced it to “change gear”.
"We hope there won’t be any more delays to our redelineation schedule," Abdul Aziz told a press conference at the EC headquarters today.
Asked if he feels the EC should be informed before seats are vacated for politically strategic reasons, Abdul Aziz said the law does not require elected representatives to do so.
"We only do what is provided (by) law," he said.
The EC, he added, will place an order for indelible ink and expects to obtain a supply within two weeks.
