Lee Kim Sin, the PKR assemblyperson who successfully seized the Kajang state seat from the MCA in the 2008 general election, has turned up to campaign for Anwar Ibrahim.
Kim Sin ( left ), or better known as Cikgu Lee among the locals, appeared yesterday with Anwar when meeting Taman Delima, Batu 13 residents in Kajang yesterday.
The former Kajang assemblyperson sported a baju Melayu and was greeted by the residents.
“When Lee Chin Cheh (the previous assemblyperson) resigned, I received several text messages asking me to step in to replace Chin Cheh. However, I told them that there is someone better in contesting the Kajang state seat and it is the PKR de facto leader Anwar,” he said.
“I have taken a break from politics and Anwar has asked me to follow him campaigning. We must win and do so by a bigger margin,” he said in his speech to about 100 residents and Pakatan Rakyat representatives.
Kim Sin said Anwar’s presence will bring a positive change to Selangor and also the Kajang folk, and the people should give their support to him.
He said he will also campaign for Anwar, and make visits house-to-house and to nplaces of worship.
Anwar thanked Kim Sin for willing to assist the PKR campaign although he is not contesting.
“Cikgu Lee is a clear example of a party member who is committed in assisting the PKR machinery. He may have been dejected previously but he remains steadfast with the party’s struggle,” said Anwar.
Protests were mounted by Kim Sin's supporters at the PKR headquarters last year when he was not chosen to defend his seat, and instead the party had selected Chin Cheh.
However, Kim Sin had met his supporters and asked them to support the party’s decision. Following that, Kim Sin had withdrawn from politics before his appearance yesterday.
