A seven-year-old girl drowned after falling into the swimming pool at the Selangor Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s official residence, during a Chinese New Year celebration in Shah Alam, yesterday.
Shah Alam police chief ACP Azisman Alias, when contacted today, said during the incident at about 4.30pm, the victim, Amanda Dany Shah, was believed to have wandered alone in the house without supervision by her parents.
He said the victim's parents were the caterers for the event and might have been busy with the preparation of food and not aware of her absence.
"Police received a call from a woman at about 4.30pm to report that a child had drowned in the pool. It is understood the victim left her parents and walked alone to the swimming pool located on the top floor of the residence, but there is no further information whether she was with someone else or not at the time," he said.
Azisman said a team of paramedics tried to revive her when she was pulled out of the adult swimming pool but she died on the way to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang at about 7pm.
Police have classified the case as sudden death.
