The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry portal www.1pengguna.com yesterday listed an amazing price of 98 sen a kilogramme (kg) for tenggiri fish (mackerel) at Pasar Raya Nirwana in Segamat.

The price of the fish differed greatly in other states however. It ranged from RM20/kg at Pasar Awam Ayer Hangat, Langkawi, RM22 at Pasar Awam Tanjung Karang and RM22.99 at Pasar Raya U All Mart Sdn Bhd in Jengka.

Medium-sized cencaru was sold at RM4/kg in the Jelutong wet market, Penang and at Pasar Rakyat Lahad Datu, Sabah but RM4.39 at Econsave Supermarket in Skudai Parade, Skudai, Johor.

Meanwhile, a kilogramme of medium-sized black and green kembong is RM5 at Pasar Umum Semporna, Sabah and RM6 at the Farley Supermarket in Medan Jaya, Bintulu, Sarawak.

In peninsular Malaysia, the same fish was priced RM6.50/kg at Kipmart Supermarket in Masai, Johor and Pasar Awam Taiping while Econsave Supermarket, Ayer Itam, Penang, priced it at RM6.90.

As for beef, four premises were selling local beef (top side) for as low as RM14.99/kg, namely the Tunas Manja Supermarkets in Mersing and Jerantut; and TF Value Marts in Tanjung Malim and Tapah, Perak.

A kilogramme of round cabbage (China) was RM1.49 in The Store Supermarket, Batu Pahat and Upwell Superstore (Gita), Kuching.

Garlic (China) was RM1.09/kg at TF Value Mart in Tapah, Perak while Carrefour Puchong, Selangor priced it at RM2.25.

Although in some states, the price of shallots (India) increased a little, it was generally under control, at RM1.79/kg in Giant Supermarket, Kota Baru Trade Centre and RM2.75 at The Store in Taman Sentosa, Johor Baru.  

But the Cold Storage supermarket in Great Eastern Mall, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, was selling the same shallots for as much as RM11.99/kg and its RM12 in Pasar Basah Kapit (Market Teresang), Sarawak.
