Fourteen flood victims and three firefighters were thrown overboard as a rescue boat overturned in the swollen Sungai Pegalan in Keningau, Kota Kinabalu, today.

    

They were plucked to safety shortly after, said a Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson.

However, a two-year-old girl who fell unconscious had to be taken to the Keningau Hospital.

    

He said the flood victims were being evacuated from Kampung Mempikit by a Fire and Rescue Department boat when the incident occurred at 10.33am.  

    

The boat was said to have wobbled when several flood victims became panic and stood up when they saw the swift current of the river.

    

Sungai Pegalan overflowed its banks, causing flash floods in low-lying areas.
