Floods resulting from rain since yesterday evening forced the closure of 36 schools in several districts in Sabah today, said state director of education Jame Alip.  

Thirteen of the schools were located in the Beaufort district, 13 more in Keningau, six in Tenom and two each in Sandakan and Nabawan, he said in a statement.

“As of noon today, 36 schools were ordered to close, affecting 6,156 students and 714 teachers,” he said.

Jame said he had instructed all district education offices to update the department with information on the schools closed today due to the floods.

They also had to report any damage suffered by the schools because of the floods, he added.

Jame advised principals and headmasters in the flood-prone areas to give priority to the safety of students and contact the relevant agencies for the necessary assistance.
