The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alumni Association yesterday lodged a police report over the Facebook page of a woman that allegedly insulted the sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.  

Its secretary-general, Shukri Ishak, said the report urged a thorough investigation to determine whether someone else had uploaded the remarks of the allegedly seditious, abusive and slanderous nature on the 27-year-old woman’s Facebook page.   

“We were made to understand that the woman has been arrested, but the police report yesterday is to seek to identify the mastermind behind it,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the Shah Alam district police headquarters, Shah Alam, yesterday.  

He said the act was disrespectful of the institution of the Malay rulers and legal action should be taken immediately against those involved.  

“The act did not merely tarnish the image of the sultan but also that of the Malay community in the country,” he said.

On Wednesday, the woman was picked up at about 1am at her home in Kajang, Hulu Langat, near Shah Alam.  

She was taken to the police headquarters in Shah Alam for a statement to be recorded, and has been released on police bail.  

The woman was arrested following a police report made by the sultan's aide-de-camp, ACP Ahmad Rohisham Ahmad, on Tuesday.  

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Government Pensioners Association wants individuals who spark racial tension to be severely penalised.  

Its president, Wan Mahmood Pawan Teh, said the swift action of the police in arresting the woman was praiseworthy.
