Taib’s show of defiance in picking Adenan

FREE YOURSAY ‘It is a way of saying, don't meddle with our affairs, you ‘orang Malaya’.’

Adenan Satem to replace Taib as Sarawak CM

Headhunter: This goes to show how detestable Umno is or has become to many of us. Sarawakians hate Umno because of their racism and bigotry and one is inclined to believe the majority of Malaysians feel the same way too.

Outgoing CM Abdul Taib Mahmud spat PM Najib Razak and Umno in the face and there is nothing they can do about it or perhaps they are too thick to understand.

It gives Sarawakians at least something to smile about.

Moontime: Choosing Adenan over the others as CM is an act of defiance by Taib Mahmud. It is a way of saying, don't meddle with our affairs, you ‘orang Malaya’.

Pemerhati: The earlier news reports said that Adenan Satem was not keeping very good health.

Taib probably thinks he would make a good interim CM before his son takes over and continues the Taib dynasty and the plunder.

Anonymous #33877536: It’s a matter of time for Umno to move into Sarawak just like Sabah. Sarawak cannot stop that, except the people there themselves through a referendum.

Ksn: The vital question is whether Sarawak will have a new government under the new CM without corruption, abuses of state funds and provide greater transparency, etc. Otherwise, the change is meaningless.

IQ900: Where is the cow sense? Adenan is nobody in PBB. Nobody likes him, except Taib.

Abang Johari Openg is the deputy president and he is not selected to be the next CM? Adenan is only the party’s information chief, a very, very minor post. When compare to deputy president, Abang Jo is much more senior and important than Adenan.

Why did all PBB exco members, including Alfred Jabu, give the mandate to Taib to appoint the next CM? Is he God?

SS Dhaliwal: Taib is a cunning old dog passing on the baton to an old man with severe health complications, foreseen to kick the bucket in a few years only for his son to take over as CM then, hence his foray into politics now.

Armchair Newspaper: White Hair (Taib) knew full well he needed a lame, compliant and related person to take over the CM’s post.

Someone who will least be inclined to expose Taib' family political and vast economic interests. Someone loyal to Sarawak and with the guile and will to deal with the encroaching Umno and Putrajaya ambition.

This interim phase is important. Umno is not welcomed here. And I join the rest of Sarawakian to congratulate his wisdom and courage to stand up to the bullies from Malaya.

Swipenter: Exchanging one old man for another (unhealthy) old man as CM? Way to go Sarawakians.

It is time for Sarawakians to stand up and be counted and show your displeasure for those who are plundering and raping your land. Umno Baru is sneering at you guys again.

Mr KJ John: Apa ini? The state is being run by one family; Taib’s uncle was governor, his former brother-in-law is the next CM after he himself becomes governor. This is cronyism of the highest order.

Sarajun Hoda: Damn silly. Why can't the get somebody younger with more energy? With heart conditions and his age, how do you expect Adenan to go run the huge state?

I feel pity for the Sarawakians for being treated like chickens in a coop and forced to take what is thrown at them and asked not to question anything.

Odin: This is very bad news for the natives. 'Natives' include Ibans, of course. Adenan has been very much against the granting of the natives their NCR (native customary rights) land.

P Dev Anand Pillai: But what can we say, folks. At the end of the day, there are still many Malaysians and other so-called "new Malaysians" who will vote for the same blessed government over and over again.

'Taib will be powerful for as long as he lives'

Fernz: Putrajaya will try to disunite the people of Sarawak, as they did in Sabah, so that the state will not leave the federation. If Umno ever tries to step foot in Sarawak, the state will immediately pull out of the federation.

The state assembly can pass a resolution to say that Sarawak wants to stand on its own two feet. The resolution can be signed by the TYT (governor) and filed with the United Nations secretary-general and the UN Security Council.

I doubt that Putrajaya will agree to Taib being TYT. With Taib as TYT, it’s difficult for Umno to come in. It's the people of Sarawak who decide, through their leaders, on who will be their governor.

If Taib is not appointed TYT, he will not let go of the CM's post. Also, Umno wants to come in because Pakatan Rakyat is in Sarawak. If so, they should contest on their own, not try to turn PBB into Umno, like in Sabah where Usno became Umno.

Fair Play: Perhaps, it is apt to say that Taib is untouchable so long as there is no regime change at the federal level.
