As the world fetes the day of love, PAS divisions are urged to spread the message to Muslims that celebrating Valentine's Day is haram (forbidden).

PAS' Dakwah Bureau secretary Riduan Mohd Nor said that divisions must conduct 'Street Dakwah' to “stop vice on Valentine's Day”.

“Street Dakwah is a popular term today and it should be used to stop vice on Valentine's Day. The method is general and relaxed, involving all sorts of strategies to approach the youth.

“While couples get lost in celebrating Valentine's night, 'Street Dakwah' will enter dark and lonely alleys, suspicious premises, quiet lake gardens, luxury and budget hotels, and sharehouses to ensure no vice is committed,” he said in a statement.

He added that he hopes PAS divisions, NGOs, and the authorities will take part in the 'Street Dakwah' to “save thousands of Muslim youths from drowning in sin”.

He said that many Muslims still do not know that celebrating Valentine's Day is haram , and even go as far as celebrating with “vice and undignified ways to the extent of having pre-marital sex ” on Feb 14.

“We hope that this romantic and forbidden relations on Valentine's Day will not lead to Muslim young women delivering illegitimate children and adding to the statistics of such by year's end,” he noted.

According to Riduan, the concept of Valentine's Day does not exist in Islam as the only lovers allowed by the religion are those who are married to each other.

Even then, he said, married couples need not celebrate Valentine's Day as they should celebrate their love to each other all the time and do not need a specific day to do so.

“Islam does not accept the concept of Valentine's Day as it leads to sin for those who celebrate. It is haram because of the way it is celebrated, its links to another religion, its historical significance and impact to society...

“Muslims have many other great historical events to celebrate and commemorate,” the former PAS Youth leader said, urging the media, hotels, and restaurants not to run Valentine's Day promotions.

Anti-Valentine's Day activities were once spearheaded by PAS Youth, however, the youth wing under a new leadership appears to have given this campaign a miss this year.
