A big portion of the bushes at Sering Ukay, Ampang in Kuala Lumpur was on fire last night, believed to be caused by firecrakers being played in the area.
Ampang Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Anuar Yacob said the fire, which occurred at about 9pm, caused almost four hectares of the area to be covered by thick smoke and fire.
However there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
He said the fire station received an emergency call at 9.21pm before four fire engines from the Ampang, Wangsa Maju, Pandan Indah and Hang Tuah fire stations rushed to the scene.
“With 33 personnel, including from the police and the Civil Defence Department, we were confronted with strong winds that caused the fire to spread quickly,” he said when contacted in Kuala Lumpur today.
The fire was put under control completely by 12.40am, he said.
He said the actual cause of the fire was still under investigation.
