But can M'sians forgive Waythamoorthy?
YOURSAY ‘Many leaders advised you not to trust BN but you did not listen.’
I am sorry, says Waythamoorthy
Onyourtoes:
Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia leader P Waythamoorthy, your apology is too little too late. You must be an idiot to have thought your memorandum of understanding (MOU) was going to work.
Look, it is not Najib Abdul Razak, it is Umno’s DNA which you must deal with. Just look at them since (former Singapore prime minister) Lee Kuan Yew’s and (former Sarawak chief minister) Stephen Kalong Ningkan’s day.
It is the same old strategy of dominance and subservience, the same bullying and the same ‘ketuanan’ mentality.
You must apologise to all Malaysians, not just those who have voted for BN because of your moronic MOU. Can’t you see your action has irreparably damaged Malaysians of all races and religions for at least another five years. It is best you retire for good.
Sub: Waythamoorthy, it is simple to say “forgive me”. But what about the 20 percent of Indian Malaysians who trusted you and voted for BN?
Many leaders advised you not to trust BN but you did not listen. Promises and MOUs don’t have any legal standing.
You are very smart indeed. You have successfully cleared all your cases, registered Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia and destroyed Hindraf unity. God Bless You.
Aswathaama: Yes, he signed a pact with the devil. But did Hindraf have a choice? They were caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. It was a political gamble.
Seng Low: Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia did the most honourable thing. It apologised. In this world full of lies and deceit, how many of us would come openly and apologise?
Indians in this country are lucky they have men of integrity to represent them. BN and Najib will pay dearly for this.
The association should go on a roadshow to the estates and where the Indians do not have access to the Internet and explain to them what has transpired. I know they have a good network in the rural areas. They should teach BN a good lesson.
Mr KJ John: Admitting an error of judgement is a good starting point; but we also lost a great opportunity for real change as well.
Bamboo: Mr KJ John, exactly, we lost a good opportunity to topple BN at the ballot box. Waythmoorthy's alliance with BN had cost us a change of government in GE13.
The Chinese were lied to by Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1999, and BN has not been able to regain support from the Chinese. Sad to say, Indian Malaysians have yet to wise up. They are still easily bought over by some sweet promises from BN.
Anonymous #06188481: Does one expect a leopard to change its spots? I don't believe Waytha one bit. He come across to me as one guy whose attitude is 'what is in there for me?'.
This is a ‘sandiwara’. It was clear as daylight for anyone to see that there was something not right about Najib's invitation to join him in the cabinet. They both hatched the plan to deny Pakatan Rakyat of the chance to take hold of Putrajaya.
Waytha has now gained a fair share of his rewards, therefore he has no regrets resigning. He now hopes he will be accorded a hero's welcome, trying to hoodwink the uninitiated of his so-called gallant act.
Rupert Jason: The Malaysiakini commentators are sick in the head. They are so intoxicated with Pakatan and Anwar Ibrahim's lies.
The attempt by Waytha is to help the poor Indian Malaysians, not idiots like you guys. Fools will never understand the plight of the poor Indian Malaysians.
Theeyes82: Kudos to you, Waytha. No one has done this and to admit one is wrong is sublime. Your resignation and statement will hit hard on the staunch BN supporters from the Indian fraction.
The opposition leader himself was part of the BN's highest rank and now he is championing the people's rights. Surely you could be the next in line for the Indian Malaysian community. Lots of trust have been lost, but you could make do in the next four years.
Cry, My Beloved Country: Waytha, it’s not too late to follow up immediately on your apology. Go, tell the electorate in Kajang, particularly the Indian Malaysian poor, face to face, that BN did not move even on one of the 32 promised items, despite your persistence.
Expose those who put obstacles in the way and how the PM did nothing to have the obstacles removed, that ‘nambikei’ simply means nothing.
Repeat it until its significance and the reality sinks in and is internalised and cannot be erased. You may then recover some little credibility by your actions and openness, not by mere words of apology.
Anonymous #25558299: Yes my dear Waytha, from now on you must put all your efforts and work sincerely for Indian Malaysians and the only way is to join hands with the opposition parties to win Putrajaya. You are a leader who is capable of doing that.
Surely Pakatan will help you in achieving your goals for the Indians. There is no other way - you cannot go beg BN anymore and neither can you go it alone. You have to join the 53 percent who supported the opposition.
Anonymous_3e86: Come the next GE and Waytha may very well be fooled again by BN. The sad thing is that such people always get fooled by BN every time just by dangling the carrot in front of them.
They never will learn the fools they are made by BN. BN knows that and they will continue to play out the Indian Malaysian community.
It is time the Indian Malaysian community learns to stand on their own two feet and not depend on BN for their existence and survival.
The Chinese have done that. They have totally rejected BN. BN is playing the ‘ketuanan Melayu’ game to try recapture the split Malay votes, but has instead lost more because it has become more racist and extreme.
James TCLow: Waythamoorthy, now you have learned the lesson - begging for a piece of meat from a crocodile but you have instead ended in its stomach.
