Now Zaid wants Khalid to remain Selangor MB

Quigonbond: I don't see what the big fuss is about Khalid Ibrahim stepping down as Selangor MB. He is a member of PKR. Anwar Ibrahim is PKR's boss.

Anwar does not need to declare whether he will take over MB's position or not. The fact that he is assemblyman leaves that option open depending on Umno’s maneouvres.

Kajang will always look at the larger picture, and the larger picture hasn't changed since GE13 - flawed electoral rules and process, biased Election Commission, biased enforcement, and Umno beating war drums on the artificial crisis of race and religion instead of fixing the damned economic and education structure.

Giving a vote to Zaid Ibrahim or MCA will produce zero results. Give a vote to Anwar and Umno and Perkasa will pee in their collective pants and retreat to suck their thumbs.

Maplesyrup: I thought Zaid had retired from politics? Although I disagreed about replacing Khalid (if at all this is to happen), I am also beginning to see the merit of having a MB with political experience (if we can call it such a thing).

Zaid joining the fray is only going to do BN a favour at best, or worse, he is going to humiliate himself one more time.

LifeFlier: Khalid is too cautious in spending, he is no doubt the MB whom we see as a trustworthy treasurer, who has done well in accumulating and preserving the wealth of Selangor government.

I hope Selangor people want more than that. He should put the money to work for the people of Selangor, build a better infrastructure, create more jobs and improve the quality of life.

By the way, Zaid, a good CEO does not automatically imply an all-round MB. When everything runs smoothly, it does not mean that we should stop thinking of improvements.

Wira: I have said this before. As long as the financial situation of the state is healthy, there is no reason to keep so much money. A strong reserve here does not make the ringgit stronger nor would it impact the national economy.

The right way to run a state as far as money is concerned is to ensure that you have a good collection system for your income (ie. state and municipal taxes) and don't spend beyond what you earn.

Return the tax money to the people in prudent and corruption-free spending. Spend to beautify residential areas with well-maintained public parks.

Spend to revitalise areas where family can rediscover the state and, at the same time, help the local economy with more domestic tourist arrivals. Maintain your municipal roads well and be proactive to solve traffic jam woes.

In the above areas, I think the Pakatan government in Penang is doing better than Selangor. Go learn from each other.

J Ng: Zaid has not only lost his political integrity but also his intellectual capability. Political leaders should not be measured by just the absolute financial savings.

I know of many families and companies where the older folks are so petty in wanting to save and accumulate every penny. Does this mean they should be heading the families or companies?

Selangor being the biggest 'golden goose' to Umno is been attacked vigorously both within and without. As such, it will crumple even if led by a good corporate administrator.

Frankly, the state needs a politically shrew leader like Anwar in the interest of the rakyat’s long-term plan to replace BN in Putrajaya.

2LAN: Zaid, you are all talk for the sake of publicity to feed your ego. I bet you will not have the balls to be there on nomination day. You love the attention, don't you? You know you will lose your deposit.

Cascara: Zaid is another flip-flop man. Khalid may have amassed RM2.8 billion but he may have to hand that over to Umno on a silver platter.

What answer does Zaid have for the Umno-BN onslaught and the racial/religious problems they are creating in Selangor with a view to take over the state?

Botak Chin: While I agree with Zaid that Khalid should remain as Selangor MB until the end of his tenure, I do not support Zaid standing as an independent candidate. Why be a spoiler?

Let Anwar contest and let it be a do-or-die battle between BN and PKR. Don't stand as an independent and split the votes. At this moment in time, Anwar is our only saviour. Please Zaid, stay out of this election.

WDA: The people of Kajang are smart enough to know that they can never trust someone who flips and flops on his position, that too in just a couple of weeks.

How do you explain this drastic change in Zaid's stand? Either Zaid really misses and wants very much to be a MP again or he could be Umno's fall guy to split Pakatan's votes to hand BN a victory in the coming by-election.

I looks like Umno is very nervous about Anwar becoming MB of Selangor. Just listen to former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He rants about his former deputy almost every day since Anwar announced his intention to stand as PKR's candidate for Kajang.

This should be good enough reason to give Anwar a resounding victory on March 23.

Mushiro: If Zaid believed so much in the MBship of Khalid then he should also believe in the decisions of Pakatan comprising PKR, DAP and PAS.

The credit for choosing Khalid as MB clearly goes to Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan - it is not by accident. So have trust in the same team that the same good decisions are being made now by the Kajang move.

It is going to be a game changer to counter the dirty politics of Mahathir and Umno. Zaid should believe in being proactive in politics and not wait for things to break before moving in - by then it will be too late.

The Observer: Zaid's credibility and political judgement is thrown in doubt with this move. This doesn't reflect well on his ideological leanings that can sway from one end to another. What a pity.
