Floodwaters have begun to recede in the Beaufort district, enabling evacuees at relief centres to return to their homes.

As at 10am today, the number of evacuees at the five relief centres had dropped to 1,972 from 2,449 yesterday evening, said a spokesperson of the Beaufort flood operations room.

The evacuees comprised members of 627 families from 50 villages.

The spokesperson said the relief centre at the surau of Sungai Bukau village had been closed.

He also said that the level of the Padas River had dropped to 8.44 metres from 8.83 metres yesterday evening. The danger point is 8.70 metres.
