Prime Minister Najib Razak will deliver a keynote address at The ‘National Economic Summit and Dialogue’ on March 7 where he is expected to shed more light on the current economic climate in the country.

 

Hosted jointly by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli), the dialogue will be a useful platform to address issues of concern such as the rising cost of living and economic challenges confronting the nation.

 

"A sustainable economy is very important for peace and stability of the country because if the economy prospers, then the people will be happier," Asli chief executive officer Michael Yeoh told a media conference at Wisma Bernama here to announce details of the half-day summit-cum-conference.

 

Themed ‘Moving the Economy Forward: Getting to the Heart of the Matter,’ Najib, who is also finance minister, will also engage in a question-and-answer session after his keynote address with about 300 to 400 delegates.

 

During the summit to be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, there will be a special panel session entitled: ‘What is the real truth of the Malaysian economy and how can we move ahead to overcome our economic challenges’.

 

Panelists include prominent economists such as Bank Muamalat Chairman, Munir Majid, who is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at London School of Economics; former Human Resources Minister and former Dean of University Malaya's Economics Faculty Fong Chan Onn ( right ) and Malaysian Institute of Economic Research chairman Sulaiman Mahbob.

 

Bernama general manager Yong Soo Heong, who was also present at the media conference, said the summit was a good opportunity for the government to explain to the people about Malaysia's latest economic status.

 

"We are very honoured to be working with Asli and for the benefit of this country with Bernama taking the responsibility to help the government explain what is happening in the country and how can the country move forward," he added.
