PKR has reiterated its call for Kajang voters to be "grateful" that a "great leader" like Anwar Ibrahim is contesting the Kajang by-election.

The statement , first made by PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, was echoed by the party's Hulu Langat MP Abdullah Sani while addressing the party machinery last night.

Showering his boss with accolades in his speech in Sungai Sekamat, Abdullah ( right ) said that no other Malaysian leader has achieved what Anwar has.

"The people of Kajang should be grateful to have a great leader, who is recognised by the world.

"We forget that Anwar received the World Bank award; has there been any Malay or Malaysian who has received the same?

"Did Mahathir get it? Did Daim? (They were) not qualified!" he said, referring to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.

According to Abdullah, Anwar's entry into the Selangor legislative assembly is vital preparation to face a financial crisis which is predicted this year.

He said that Anwar's experience in handling the 1997 financial crisis will assist the Selangor government on this front.

"God willing, Anwar will ensure that Selangor is safe in the 2014 financial crisis. Why? Because he has gone through it before, and we are confident that Selangor needs Anwar's help."

Abdullah, however, did not specify the capacity in which Anwar will assist in this manner. Anwar is now Selangor economic advisor.

He also chose not to specify the role that Anwar will take in the state if he wins the Kajang by-election, while leading the machinery in a prayer.

"May Allah give us strength, confidence and unity to ensure that this individual named Anwar Ibrahim is appointed as...'bla bla bla'...God willing, after March 23, 2014," he said in the prayer.

Although PKR sidesteps the matter, the party is widely seen to have triggered the Kajang by-election to pave the way for Anwar to succeed Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Nomination day is March 11 while polling day is March 23.
