Selangor DAP Youth has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to help relief efforts in areas that are struck with dry taps.

In a press release today, Selangor DAP Youth political education secretary Chiong Yoke Kiong said although the situation was due to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor's (Syabas) weaknesses, the state government should be proactive in helping affected households.

He said that the state government can help distribute water to those affected by logistical reasons and financially by providing mobile water tanks and manpower.

"Selangor DAP Youth also hope that the menteri besar will visit affected areas and hear the views of the public without depending on reports from his own officers," he said.

Selangor DAP Youth is also urging the state government to establish a committee to tackle water shortage woes to reduce public anger.

Several areas in the Klang Valley are suffering from dry taps as a result of increased ammonia content in Sungai Langat.

Among the worst hit is Balakong, while other affected areas includes Serdang, Cheras, Pandan, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and certain parts of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
