Police have recorded statements from two Malaysiakini reporters on the online news portal’s report on money being offered to slap Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

Senior investigating officer ASP Ananthan Rajoo from the Dang Wangi Criminal Investigations Department and one other officer interviewed Malaysiakini ’s Malay section reporter Ahmad Fadli KC and KiniTV video journalist Terry Wee for about an hour and 20 minutes yesterday evening.

Ananthan informed Terry and Fadli that their statements were being recorded in accordance with  Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as part of investigations into a police report lodged by Kok, who is a DAP vice-chairperson.

The two journalists had reported on a Feb 6 rally organised by a coalition dubbed ‘Majlis Jemaah NGO Islam Malaysia’.

The group reportedly offered RM500 for the first person to slap Kok and record the act on video as proof. The offer was later raised to RM1,200.

Two days later, Kok lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on the money-for-slap offer, accusing the group of resorting to criminal intimidation.
