Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the RM35 million allocation provided by Putrajaya for Taman Permata residents in Dengkil, Selangor involved the construction of 400 new houses.
 
According to Abdul Rahman's Twitter feed yesterday, Selangor will provide the land for the new houses.
 
"The Selangor government is aware. For Taman Permata residents, PM has approved (the) budget. Land is in the process (of being) acquired by (the) state," he wrote. 
 
Abdul Rahman was responding to questions from a Twitter user, who sought the former's response to Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) chairperson P Waythamoorthy's allegation that he was unaware of the RM35 million allocation.
 
The allocation was first raised by Abdul Rahman on Feb 19, also through Twitter , when defending Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's policies on the Indian community.

 

Waythamoorthy ( right in photo ) had resigned as deputy minister and as senator on Feb 10, citing Najib's failure to implement various policies outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between PHM and BN.
 
However, Waythamoorthy later told the press that he was unaware of the RM35 million allocation mentioned by Abdul Rahman, and insisted that Taman Permata was just one of many issues faced by the Indian community.
 
The Taman Permata inhabitants of Indian descent were once estate workers, who had been relocated to make way for the construction of Putrajaya.
 
Their current accomodations, however, are in shambles and some residents had been forced to live in tents for several months.
