Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) expects one of its four Parliamentarians to be included in the federal cabinet during an expected reshuffle later this year.

SPDP president William Mawan said SPDP will arrange for a meeting with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to discuss the matter soon.

"The prime minister himself has informed me he will appoint one of the(SPDP) members of parliament to the cabinet. That is why we were not too demanding (on Najib) and will leave it to him to make the decision," he said, according to Bernama .

Najib is expected to reshuffle is cabinet soon following MCA's decision to reverse its policy against accepting government positions following the party's showing during the 13th general election.

The transport ministry portfolio has been reserved for the party, who will most likely nominate its president Liow Tiong Lai for the position.

Moreover, there has been speculative reports that some members of Najib's economic team in the cabinet might opt out during the reshuffle.

Meanwhile, Mawan denied speculations that SPDP and the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) were in merger talks.

However, he said SPDP was always open to any initiative and negotiations that would benefit BN.

"It takes two to clap (hands). Both parties must show interest. Up to now there is no initiative towards that direction from SUPP's side," he told reporters after chairing the SPDP's supreme council meeting at the party headquarters in Kuching.
