Around for to five navy personnel were injured in a mishap involving a kilo class submarine off Mumbai coast today.

According to India Today , the Indian Navy Ship (INS) Sindhuratna was heading to the Mumbai shore after it was forced to surface when smoke was detected on board.

A suspected gas leak from a battery is said to be the cause of the incident which was being considered as serious, said the weekly news magazine.

It said that the sailors have been airlifted to a navy hospital in Mumbai.

Last year, an explosion and fire sank a submarine, INS Sindhurakshak with 18 sailors on board in a Mumbai dockyard.
