'Call BN Barang Turun gov't a year after GST'

Joker: Money is a zero-sum game. Money is either with the government, the business sector or the consuming public. BN is saying that the consumer will pay less taxes and enjoy lower prices. BN also said the government will enjoy more tax income.

Therefore BN is saying that the businesspeople will pay more taxes to the government, and selling goods and services at a lower price to the consuming public.

Before the Goods and Services Tax (GST), everything goes up; and after the GST everything will magically come down?

BN should implement the GST on car prices too. That way, they can eliminate excise duties/sales tax and somehow still get more income and fulfill their election pledge that car prices will come down for the consumers to enjoy.

Just_A_Rakyat: The whole purpose of this exercise is to bring in more revenue for the government.

If the consumers actually pay less, then where is the additional revenue to the government coming from? The sellers? Hard to comprehend, maybe our minister has a magic trick up his sleeve.

In some way, Maslan is correct - one drop of water plus one drop of water equals one larger drop of water. Never in my wildest imagination would I concede that a minister would imagine that. But that is not the issue here.

What this minister is saying is purely conjectural, something not based on empirical or studied analyses out there in the world.

What we have in Malaysia, and for the longest time, are appointments of such clowns, never mind if they have had a proper tertiary education - or if in fact they had bought their degrees from questionable institutions.

For me, as well as I believe for most Malaysians, why should our country be tarnished not only locally but also internationally by such vacuous and laughable statements made time and again by these ministers?

Do they truly represent the mentalities of mature and sophisticated Malaysians?

Even Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking will not be able to comprehend this. The GST is for all goods and services, except for a few items, when the sales tax only affects the sale of goods.

The abolition of sales tax, and the introduction of a wider and more general GST, cannot have the end result of goods being cheaper.

The deputy finance minister said there will be a RM3 billion extra revenue. Someone has to pay for this. If prices are generally cheaper, where is this RM3 billion coming from?

Did you filter your statement through your brain before it came out from your mouth? We are often taught that what defiles a person is not what goes into their mouths, but what comes out from it.

Urban Malaysians are not stupid, Ahmad Maslan. Please think carefully before you talk, because if you keep quiet, no one will know you are a fool.

Anonymous_4056: Ever since Ahmad Maslan took over as Umno information chief, little did they know Umno's credibility has gone fart. Now, as deputy finance minister - when he knows nuts about finance - let us pray and hope that the tills remains intact.

Just keep a close eye on pilferage, wastage and corrupt practises. Make sure our Treasury is not robbed in broad daylight.

Well Thats Fantastic: How about a law that says prices displayed on all menus and items be shown inclusive of tax and service charges, so that the shock of the extras can stop at least.

We demand all ministers who support the GST sign a memorandum of understanding that if prices haven't decreased after a year, they will resign from their government and government-linked posts for the rest of their lives.

Rightan: Aiyah, we should have introduced the GST a long time ago since it is such an excellent weapon in fighting inflation.
